CITY OF SANTA MONICA’S MEMORIAL PARK RULES


HOURS OF OPERATION

Open 8:00am to 10:00pm.

Court Closed for washing First Thursday of every month.  

During inclement weather courts will be closed and will not be opened until playing conditions and surfaces are deemed safe and free from any puddles, streaks or potential hazards.  

Persons using this facility must comply with all applicable federal, state, county, and municipal laws.  

The following are prohibited

  • Playing barefoot or with hard-soled shoes 

  • In-line skates, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, and bicycles 

  • Dogs (as per municipal code 4.04.160) 

  • Amplified Music (unless written permission is provided by city staff for special event) 

  • Smoking or vaping 

  • Behavior that is disruptive, harassing, or threatening to Park users or staff. 


MEMORIAL PARK RULES

Unless otherwise designated for a program, activity or event, court use will be first-come, first-serve. Players must follow general court rules. 

When Tennis is in progress do not place equipment on the court; do not walk onto the court except to pass through. 

Private Instruction is not allowed at this time.

COURTS 1 and 2

  • Personal, portable nets are allowed when courts are not permitted out.

  • If another group with a net is waiting, play is limited to 1 hour.

COURTS 3 AND 4

  • Courts are designated “open play” during all park hours.

  • No personal, portable nets are allowed; even when C&D nets are pushed to the side.

  • When others are waiting to play: 

    • Limit warm up time to 5 minutes.  

    • Use the paddle stacking system to rotate players. (one on/one off, two on/two off etc.) 

    • Games are to 11 and win by 1.  

    • If more than 4 paddles are stacked then games are to 8, win by 1.  

    • No drilling allowed. 

    • One person cannot hold a court when others are waiting. 

    • Singles play is allowed, unless four or more paddles are stacked, waiting for the court.

PLAYER SAFETY AND ETIQUETTE

  • Always be respectful and inclusive.  

  • When the ball enters another court, call “Ball On!”  

  • When unsure on a call, the benefit of the doubt goes to your opponent. 

  • When waiting, stay clear of the play area.  

  • Do not hold a spot for yourself or another player if absent or on another court.
